What is Acupressure

Acupressure is an ancient healing art rooted in traditional Chinese medicine. It operates on the principles of acupuncture but uses physical pressure instead of needles. It is a gentle technique that you apply yourself, by using your fingertips or thumb on specific points on the body to relieve tension, improve circulation, and promote overall wellness. It is easy to learn and safe to practice.

The Benefits of Self-Acupressure

Self-acupressure offers numerous benefits. For one, it helps alleviate stress and anxiety, provide relief from headaches, muscle pain, and even digestive problems. By mastering a few techniques, you can easily integrate this practice into your daily routine, promoting relaxation and well-being.

How do I do this?

First find the point you want to use. Then placing your finger or thumb on the area, press gently down or do rcular movements.

How long do I hold the point?

Ideally anywhere between 3 to 5 mins. If you don't have this time, something is better than nothing! Practice while watching TV, Listening to music, in the bath, or just before you go to sleep!

More pressure is better?

No. Less is more! You may find some tender points, which is normal, If too much pressure is applied you may find your muscles tightening up and it can become uncomfortable. Find the pressure that feels right for you.

Any other tips?

If you want to enhance the experience, try circular movements, pressing up and down on the spot, You can also use elbows or specialised acupressure tools.

The spot feels tender, what does this mean?

When I find a tender spot, it means the Qi has become stagnant, there isn't free flow. Gently applying acupressure will relieve the tenderness and encourage the Qi to flow more freely to enhance your well-being.

Finally, Be Mindful!

Listen to your body. If you feel any discomfort, reduce the pressure. This practice should feel soothing and relieving. Adding acupressure into your routine can be a powerful tool for managing stress and anxiety. Enjoy.
